My current favorite quote: "Where did all this dumb-ass Sammy Sosa thumping-your-chest, kissing-your-fingers,
flashing-the-peace-sign nonsense come from? What's that stupid shit all about? Geraldo does a variation on it. It strikes me as pretentious, meaning-less, pseudoreligious bullshit"
The impending layoff is still weighing heavily on me, as would be expected. I'm having a hell of a time getting to sleep without sleeping pills. Granted, I had that problem before, but it's a lot worse, now. However, I'm really looking forward to getting the fuck out of town, tomorrow. I think that we're leaving early enough to avoid most departing olympic traffic (assuming not everyone is sticking around for the closing ceremonies). I'm kinda bummed that I didn't get to see Scott and meet "the girl", but hopefully I can get down to see him some time this spring or summer. If I can stay with him, that shouldn't be too expensive for ole layoff-boy (do you like that for a new nickname for me?). I promise I'll stay out of your hair, best I can, if you'll let me stay, Scott. I wanna make that long overdue trip out with your brother afore I start a new job and have an uncertain schedule. I still have a gift certificate to Waxtrax to spend. I'm even kind of thinking of getting a second job in addition to this one, before the layoff is complete. I'm pretty sure that I'll have to work 2 jobs to make what I'm making now. But that's all worth it if I can still buy pretty well for Xmas and get the bills paid down sooner. Or maybe I can find a job that dishes out some overtime. Who knows? Until Saturday (at the soonest), farewell. I guess Lorene has big plans for me to fuck Rob and a sheep in Vegas. If I don't have a choice in that, I guess I better be sauced as soon as I get down there.

Well, the inevitable has come. I will be laid off shortly. Work announced today that they will be laying off all of the people in SLC in my department. I don't like it, but it's not something I can do anything about, so I'm gonna try to be as relaxed as possible. Ironically, I called in sick today, and missed the announcement. There was a message on my answering machine from my boss when I got home from doing some stuff. Don't feel sorry for me. I'll cope. They'll be doing the layoffs in rounds, starting in May and going through to July. I'll get the 60 day notice that they give. There are certainly less kind ways that they could do this, and I'm thankful that they are at least this compassionate. It's just going to be really hard to replace the money I was making. Layoffs are abundant, and competition will be stiffer than usual for employment, but that's the way it goes. I'm thankful that I got this job, regardless. It's been (a) good experience, and it got me out of the hell that was my last job (where I was surely due for an ulcer). I'm still gonna take the trip to Vegas. I figure that it will be my last opportunity to get the hell out of dodge, before I have to start the manic job-hunt. I'm actually kind of pleased with myself. I figured that I would surely be suicidal, when I finally got the news. I'm okay, though. I still have the best thing that ever happened to me (my 'Rene), a wonderful family, and great friends. Lorene alone is reason enough to want to be on this earth for as long as possible. Friends and family are icing on the cake.

Click here and look at the short headline and picture of Kurt Warner's wife (it's on the left hand side of the page). Queaff pointed this out to me, as I hadn't been to the Onion in a while. I laughed hysterically, then felt kind of bad about it....then let loose with another round of uproarious laughter.

Celeborn
If I were a character in The Lord of the Rings, I would be Celeborn, Elf, King of Lothlorien, husband of Galadriel and grandfather of Arwen.
Has been my week, this week. Which is just fine by me. Got to hang out with Queaff Vice and get my permanent tooth all in one day. I don't think I'm going to end up owing any more money on this tooth thing, thankfully. I didn't even have to be numbed up for this one, but I had to go to the dental lab downtown, acause my dentist was not satisfied with the shading of the tooth. And the tooth is really very nice. It's so smooth that I can't quit running my tongue lustily over it. I couldn't believe what a perfect fit it is and that it doesn't interfere with my bite, like the temporary did. And it's oh, so, smoooooth. Aaaaaaahhhh. By the way, a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Vice bruthahs! I was pleased to find out that Jeff is now eating fish, so we got to go to Hopper's and eat their nummy fish and chips, Thursdee night. Mmmmmm. I don't know what Jeff thought about it, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. Then Fridee, 'Rene and I went to Black Angus (hurry up, work in your black anus jokes) for a gorging of prime rib. They're so good to me. They always prepare an end cut for me and give me lots of creamy horseradish. Then we went back to my house and watched the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Line of the night went to Bob Costas when a bunch of skaters with coyote suits came out. It went something like this: "Well, I know that one of my favorite things to watch are a bunch of dancing, skating coyotes". He said this in such a droll, sarcastic way that I was in stitches. And who the hell was the old dude doing commentary with Katie and Bob? When he said something to the effect of "look at the buffalo silhouette deals" I pert near shat myself, I was so amused. Very nice. And it was great to hear him constantly interrupting Katie and having to stop and apologize. Despite being bored at times, it was still a pretty impressive spectacle to behold. And I'm sorry, Lorene, but Sting should've just done that song solo. It just didn't sound right with Yo-Yo-Ma. Anyways, today I got my hair cut nice and short and did some shopping. Now, I'm just waiting for my 'Rene to call, so's we can go out for the day.
